What the firm does

The firm’s work falls into three categories that overlap more often than they separate.

Litigation. Civil suits over property, title and contract; criminal proceedings from the police enquiry stage through bail and trial; matrimonial proceedings before the Family Court; and commercial disputes before the Commercial Courts and the High Court of Karnataka.

Advisory work. Title verification before a property transaction, review and drafting of commercial contracts, employment documentation, and long-standing institutional advice, particularly in Kodagu.

Dispute resolution outside court. Domestic arbitration, both ad-hoc and institutional, construction arbitration, and mediation where a negotiated resolution is achievable.

How the firm works

Instructions ordinarily begin with a consultation at which the facts are set out and the documents examined. What follows is a view on the forum that applies, the options realistically available, and what the matter will require in terms of documents, time and attendance.

The firm does not make predictions about outcomes. Legal proceedings depend on facts, evidence and the court before which they are heard, and none of those can be promised in advance.

Two offices, one practice

The Bengaluru office is at Manipal Centre on Dickenson Road, off Mahatma Gandhi Road, close to MG Road. It is the firm’s principal office and is where most litigation and commercial work is run from.

The Virajpet office is on Field Marshal Cariappa Road in Kodagu. The founder of the firm, BN Thimmaiah, has a long professional association with Virajpet, including having served as President and Secretary of the Bar Association of Virajpet, and the office serves clients in Virajpet, Kodagu and the surrounding areas.
